South Derbyshire Local Plan Review: Have Your Say

Writer's picture: Clerk Clerk

The South Derbyshire District Council is currently reviewing its Local Plan Part 1, which was originally adopted in 2016. This revision aims to address changes in housing and employment needs, while enhancing the plan’s protections for the natural environment. A new Draft Local Plan Part 1 will soon be open for public consultation, offering residents and stakeholders the opportunity to shape development in the area up to 2039.

What is the Local Plan?

The Local Plan is a critical document that sets out the long-term strategy for development in South Derbyshire. It provides guidance on how much, where, and what types of larger developments will be permitted. It also includes policies and site allocations to help ensure new developments are sustainable and beneficial to the community.

This latest review is part of a regular update process to ensure the plan remains relevant. The council previously consulted on the plan’s Issues and Options in late 2022, and feedback from that has informed the revised draft.

What Will the Consultation Cover?

The upcoming consultation will ask for your views on the following:

  • The Draft Local Plan Part 1, which updates the adopted 2016 plan.

  • The Plan’s Sustainability Appraisal, assessing the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the plan.

You will also have the opportunity to comment on other relevant matters, such as the plan’s evidence base or any additional issues that should be considered.

How to Get Involved

The consultation opens on 7th October 2024, and we strongly encourage residents to participate. You can find all the relevant documents and submit your comments online through the council's dedicated webpage:www.southderbyshire.gov.uk/draftLPP1review.

Paper copies of the consultation document and questionnaire will be available at the South Derbyshire District Council Civic Offices, local libraries, and selected libraries outside the district.

To further engage with the community, the council will be holding a series of drop-in events where you can learn more about the plan and ask questions. These events are open to all, and you are welcome to attend any session that suits you. Below are the key dates and venues:
