A Notice: Consultation on further integration between Derbyshire County Council & Derbyshire Community Health Services

Writer's picture: Clerk Clerk

Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Community Health Services have approved a joint public consultation to explore the potential for a formal partnership. This initiative aims to improve assessment and reablement services, helping residents maintain their independence at home for as long as possible.

The consultation runs from 5 December 2024 to 16 January 2025, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the proposed partnership, which would combine budgets and strengthen collaboration between the two organisations.

Why This Matters

Assessment and reablement services play a vital role in supporting individuals who leave hospital or whose health and care needs change. By combining resources, we could deliver a seamless, consistent experience that ensures people receive the support they need to regain independence in their homes or community settings.

Currently, we’ve taken steps to align our activities informally, such as using multi-professional assessments and sharing skills and training. However, a formal partnership supported by a section 75 agreement would enable us to go further, creating a more effective and integrated service.

How You Can Get Involved

Your feedback is essential to shaping the future of these services. There are several ways to share your views:

Background and Next Steps

In a previous consultation about older people’s services, we heard from stakeholders about the potential benefits of aligning assessment and reablement activities more closely. This feedback has guided our current proposal, which seeks to formalise our collaboration to provide better outcomes for Derbyshire residents.

We are committed to working transparently and collaboratively to fully understand the implications of a formal partnership. After the consultation closes, all feedback will be carefully reviewed, and a recommendations paper will be presented to both organisations in early spring.

Your Voice Matters

This is your opportunity to help shape the future of health and care services in Derbyshire. By sharing your views, you can influence how we support individuals in our community to live independently and confidently at home.

Thank you for participating in this important conversation.
